Scottish Agricultural College Graduation 2009

This month I documented the graduation ceremony for the Scottish Agricultural College in Glasgow.
Held, once again, in the Bute Hall, this impressive setting was a pleasure to sit in but a bit of a nightmare to shoot in. Very low light conditions and high high ceilings meant that ISO's were high or exposures were long.
Still - I got some nice results from the day and my work was used in press releases to promote the college and the honorary award which were distributed to friends and members of the college who had made an outstanding contribution to the institution.
Other images will be used in the SAC prospectus and promotional materials.

Scottish Agricultural College Graduation.

Yesterday involved a shoot for the Scottish Agricultural College documenting their graduation and special prize winners.
The job was in the Bute Hall of the University of Glasgow. A really stunning building - It would have been nice to grab a wide angle lens and go exploring around it. Alas, that was not my brief for the day - Back to the job in hand...
Although fairly straight forward, I was very aware that I needed to be on my toes in order to get the "prize" shots. I would only get one chance at photographing the subjects. Generally I have much more time in order to get a shot i like but I was pretty happy with the results from the day.
Working with a large institution is vastly different to working with individuals and smaller companies, of which I have more experience. It's been a challenge to ensure that my work satisfies a far greater number of individuals than I would normally worry about. Everyone has different tastes when it comes to what they need and it's certainly been a valuable experience dealing with such a large organisation. Thankfully, all the feedback I've had about images which I've provided them with has been very positive - particularly from the in house designer and PR manager.
I have a couple more large jobs lined up with them in the next week or so which are vastly different to what I was doing yesterday. Working for them has really helped me to get back to grips with shooting for a market. I love photography but sometimes tend to get lost in myself in it without thinking with my "business" hat on - which could be a costly mistake.
